AV Isa 3:12 [As for] my people, children [are] their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they which lead thee cause [thee] to err, and destroy the way of thy paths.
AV Mk 10:9 What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.
AV Mk 10:10 And in the house his disciples asked him again of the same [matter].
AV Mk 10:11 And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her.
AV Mk 10:12 And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery.
In three things I was beautified, and stood up beautiful both before God and men: the unity of brethren, the love of neighbours, a man and a wife that agree together.
Three sorts of men my soul hateth, and I am greatly offended at their life: a poor man that is proud, a rich man that is a liar, and an old adulterer that doateth.
If thou hast gathered nothing in thy youth, how canst thou find any thing in thine age?
O how comely a thing is judgment for gray hairs, and for ancient men to know counsel!
O how comely is the wisdom of old men, and understanding and counsel to men of honour.
Much experience is the crown of old men, and the fear of God is their glory.
There be nine things which I have judged in mine heart to be happy, and the tenth I will utter with my tongue: A man that hath joy of his children; and he that liveth to see the fall of his enemy:
Well is him that dwelleth with a wife of understanding, and that hath not slipped with his tongue, and that hath not served a man more unworthy than himself:
Well is him that hath found prudence, and he that speaketh in the ears of them that will hear:
O how great is he that findeth wisdom! yet is there none above him that feareth the Lord.
But the love of the Lord passeth all things for illumination: he that holdeth it, whereto shall he be likened?
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of his love: and faith is the beginning of cleaving unto him.
[Give me] any plague, but the plague of the heart: and any wickedness, but the wickedness of a woman:
And any affliction, but the affliction from them that hate me: and any revenge, but the revenge of enemies.
There is no head above the head of a serpent; and there is no wrath above the wrath of an enemy.
I had rather dwell with a lion and a dragon, than to keep house with a wicked woman.
The wickedness of a woman changeth her face, and darkeneth her countenance like sackcloth.
Her husband shall sit among his neighbours; and when he heareth it shall sigh bitterly.
All wickedness is but little to the wickedness of a woman: let the portion of a sinner fall upon her.
As the climbing up a sandy way is to the feet of the aged, so is a wife full of words to a quiet man.
Stumble not at the beauty of a woman, and desire her not for pleasure.
A woman, if she maintain her husband, is full of anger, impudence, and much reproach.
A wicked woman abateth the courage, maketh an heavy countenance and a wounded heart: a woman that will not comfort her husband in distress maketh weak hands and feeble knees.
Of the woman came the beginning of sin, and through her we all die.
Give the water no passage; neither a wicked woman liberty to gad abroad.
If she go not as thou wouldest have her, cut her off from thy flesh, and give her a bill of divorce, and let her go.
Blessed is the man that hath a virtuous wife, for the number of his days shall be double.
A virtuous woman rejoiceth her husband, and he shall fulfil the years of his life in peace.
A good wife is a good portion, which shall be given in the portion of them that fear the Lord.
Whether a man be rich or poor, if he have a good heart toward the Lord, he shall at all times rejoice with a cheerful countenance.
There be three things that mine heart feareth; and for the fourth I was sore afraid: the slander of a city, the gathering together of an unruly multitude, and a false accusation: all these are worse than death.
But a grief of heart and sorrow is a woman that is jealous over another woman, and a scourge of the tongue which communicateth with all.
An evil wife is a yoke shaken to and fro: he that hath hold of her is as though he held a scorpion.
A drunken woman and a gadder abroad causeth great anger, and she will not cover her own shame.
The whoredom of a woman may be known in her haughty looks and eyelids.
If thy daughter be shameless, keep her in straitly, lest she abuse herself through overmuch liberty.
Watch over an impudent eye: and marvel not if she trespass against thee.
She will open her mouth, as a thirsty traveller when he hath found a fountain, and drink of every water near her: by every hedge will she sit down, and open her quiver against every arrow.
The grace of a wife delighteth her husband, and her discretion will fatten his bones.
A silent and loving woman is a gift of the Lord; and there is nothing so much worth as a mind well instructed.
A shamefaced and faithful woman is a double grace, and her continent mind cannot be valued.
As the sun when it ariseth in the high heaven; so is the beauty of a good wife in the ordering of her house.
As the clear light is upon the holy candlestick; so is the beauty of the face in ripe age.
As the golden pillars are upon the sockets of silver; so are the fair feet with a constant heart.
My son, keep the flower of thine age sound; and give not thy strength to strangers.
When thou hast gotten a fruitful possession through all the field, sow it with thine own seed, trusting in the goodness of thy stock.
So thy race which thou leavest shall be magnified, having the confidence of their good descent.
An harlot shall be accounted as spittle; but a married woman is a tower against death to her husband.
A wicked woman is given as a portion to a wicked man: but a godly woman is given to him that feareth the Lord.
A dishonest woman contemneth shame: but an honest woman will reverence her husband.
A shameless woman shall be counted as a dog; but she that is shamefaced will fear the Lord.
A woman that honoureth her husband shall be judged wise of all; but she that dishonoureth him in her pride shall be counted ungodly of all.
A loud crying woman and a scold shall be sought out to drive away the enemies.
There be two things that grieve my heart; and the third maketh me angry: a man of war that suffereth poverty; and men of understanding that are not set by; and one that returneth from righteousness to sin; the Lord prepareth such an one for the sword.
A merchant shall hardly keep himself from doing wrong; and an huckster shall not be freed from sin.
SIR 36: A woman will receive every man, yet is one daughter better than another.
The beauty of a woman cheereth the countenance, and a man loveth nothing better.
If there be kindness, meekness, and comfort, in her tongue, then is not her husband like other men.
He that getteth a wife beginneth a possession, a help like unto himself, and a pillar of rest.
Where no hedge is, there the possession is spoiled: and he that hath no wife will wander up and down mourning.
Who will trust a thief well appointed, that skippeth from city to city? so [who will believe] a man that hath no house, and lodgeth wheresoever the night taketh him?AV Num 12:1 . And Miriam and Aaron spake against Moses because of the Ethiopian woman whom he had married: for he had married an Ethiopian woman.
AV Num 12:2 And they said, Hath the LORD indeed spoken only by Moses? hath he not spoken also by us? And the LORD heard [it].
AV Num 12:3 (Now the man Moses [was] very meek, above all the men which [were] upon the face of the earth.)
AV Num 12:4 . And the LORD spake suddenly unto Moses, and unto Aaron, and unto Miriam, Come out ye three unto the tabernacle of the congregation. And they three came out.
AV Num 12:5 And the LORD came down in the pillar of the cloud, and stood [in] the door of the tabernacle, and called Aaron and Miriam: and they both came forth.
AV Num 12:6 And he said, Hear now my words: If there be a prophet among you, [I] the LORD will make myself known unto him in a vision, [and] will speak unto him in a dream.
AV Num 12:7 My servant Moses [is] not so, who [is] faithful in all mine house.
AV Num 12:8 With him will I speak mouth to mouth, even apparently, and not in dark speeches; and the similitude of the LORD shall he behold: wherefore then were ye not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?
AV Num 12:9 And the anger of the LORD was kindled against them; and he departed.
AV Num 12:10 . And the cloud departed from off the tabernacle; and, behold, Miriam [became] leprous, [white] as snow: and Aaron looked upon Miriam, and, behold, [she was] leprous.
AV Num 12:11 And Aaron said unto Moses, Alas, my lord, I beseech thee, lay not the sin upon us, wherein we have done foolishly, and wherein we have sinned.
AV Num 12:12 Let her not be as one dead, of whom the flesh is half consumed when he cometh out of his mother's womb.
AV Num 12:13 And Moses cried unto the LORD, saying, Heal her now, O God, I beseech thee.
AV Num 12:14 And the LORD said unto Moses, If her father had but spit in her face, should she not be ashamed seven days? let her be shut out from the camp seven days, and after that let her be received in [again].
AV Num 12:15 And Miriam was shut out from the camp seven days: and the people journeyed not till Miriam was brought in [again].
AV Es 1:10 . On the seventh day, when the heart of the king was merry with wine, he commanded Mehuman, Biztha, Harbona, Bigtha, and Abagtha, Zethar, and Carcas, the seven chamberlains that served in the presence of Ahasuerus the king,
AV Es 1:11 To bring Vashti the queen before the king with the crown royal, to shew the people and the princes her beauty: for she [was] fair to look on.
AV Es 1:12 But the queen Vashti refused to come at the king's commandment by [his] chamberlains: therefore was the king very wroth, and his anger burned in him.
AV Es 1:13 Then the king said to the wise men, which knew the times, (for so [was] the king's manner toward all that knew law and judgment:
AV Es 1:14 And the next unto him [was] Carshena, Shethar, Admatha, Tarshish, Meres, Marsena, [and] Memucan, the seven princes of Persia and Media, which saw the king's face, [and] which sat the first in the kingdom;)
AV Es 1:15 What shall we do unto the queen Vashti according to law, because she hath not performed the commandment of the king Ahasuerus by the chamberlains?
AV Es 1:16 And Memucan answered before the king and the princes, Vashti the queen hath not done wrong to the king only, but also to all the princes, and to all the people that [are] in all the provinces of the king Ahasuerus.
AV Es 1:17 For [this] deed of the queen shall come abroad unto all women, so that they shall despise their husbands in their eyes, when it shall be reported, The king Ahasuerus commanded Vashti the queen to be brought in before him, but she came not.
AV Es 1:18 [Likewise] shall the ladies of Persia and Media say this day unto all the king's princes, which have heard of the deed of the queen. Thus [shall there arise] too much contempt and wrath.
AV Es 1:19 If it please the king, let there go a royal commandment from him, and let it be written among the laws of the Persians and the Medes, that it be not altered, That Vashti come no more before king Ahasuerus; and let the king give her royal estate unto another that is better than she.
AV Es 1:20 And when the king's decree which he shall make shall be published throughout all his empire, (for it is great,) all the wives shall give to their husbands honour, both to great and small.
AV 1Pt 3:1 . Likewise, ye wives, [be] in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;
AV 1Pt 3:2 While they behold your chaste conversation [coupled] with fear.
AV 1Pt 3:3 Whose adorning let it not be that outward [adorning] of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;
AV 1Pt 3:4 But [let it be] the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, [even the ornament] of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.
AV 1Pt 3:5 For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands:
AV 1Pt 3:6 Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.
AV 1Pt 3:7 Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with [them] according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.
AV Ti 2:1 . But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine:
AV Ti 2:2 That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience.
AV Ti 2:3 The aged women likewise, that [they be] in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;
AV Ti 2:4 That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,
AV Ti 2:5 [To be] discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.
AV 1Ti 2:9 . In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;
AV 1Ti 2:10 But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.
AV 1Ti 2:11 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.
AV 1Ti 2:12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.
AV 1Ti 2:13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve.
AV 1Ti 2:14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.
AV 1Ti 2:15 Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.
AV Eph 5:22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
AV Eph 5:23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
AV Eph 5:24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so [let] the wives [be] to their own husbands in every thing.
AV Eph 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
AV Eph 5:26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
AV Eph 5:27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
AV Eph 5:28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.
AV Eph 5:29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:
AV Eph 5:30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.
AV Eph 5:31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
AV Eph 5:32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
AV Eph 5:33 Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife [see] that she reverence [her] husband.
AV 1C 14:33 For God is not [the author] of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.
AV 1C 14:34 . Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but [they are commanded] to be under obedience, as also saith the law.
AV 1C 14:35 And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.
AV 1C 14:36 . What? came the word of God out from you? or came it unto you only?
AV 1C 14:37 If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord.
AV 1C 11:5 But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with [her] head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven.
AV 1C 11:6 For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered.
AV 1C 11:7 For a man indeed ought not to cover [his] head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man.
AV 1C 11:8 For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man.
AV 1C 11:9 Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man.
AV 1C 11:10 For this cause ought the woman to have power on [her] head because of the angels.
AV 1C 11:11 Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord.
AV 1C 11:12 For as the woman [is] of the man, even so [is] the man also by the woman; but all things of God.
AV 1C 11:13 Judge in yourselves: is it comely that a woman pray unto God uncovered?
AV 1C 11:14 Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him?
AV 1C 11:15 But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for [her] hair is given her for a covering.
AV 1C 11:16 But if any man seem to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither the churches of God.
AV 1C 7:1 . Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: [It is] good for a man not to touch a woman.
AV 1C 7:2 Nevertheless, [to avoid] fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.
AV 1C 7:3 Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband.
AV 1C 7:4 The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife.
AV 1C 7:5 Defraud ye not one the other, except [it be] with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency.
AV 1C 7:6 But I speak this by permission, [and] not of commandment.
AV 1C 7:7 For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that.
AV 1C 7:8 I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, It is good for them if they abide even as I.
AV 1C 7:9 But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn.
AV 1C 7:10 . And unto the married I command, [yet] not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from [her] husband:
AV 1C 7:11 But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to [her] husband: and let not the husband put away [his] wife.
AV 1C 7:12 But to the rest speak I, not the Lord: If any brother hath a wife that believeth not, and she be pleased to dwell with him, let him not put her away.
AV 1C 7:13 And the woman which hath an husband that believeth not, and if he be pleased to dwell with her, let her not leave him.
AV 1C 7:14 For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: else were your children unclean; but now are they holy.
AV 1C 7:15 But if the unbelieving depart, let him depart. A brother or a sister is not under bondage in such [cases]: but God hath called us to peace.
AV 1C 7:16 For what knowest thou, O wife, whether thou shalt save [thy] husband? or how knowest thou, O man, whether thou shalt save [thy] wife?
AV 1C 7:27 Art thou bound unto a wife? seek not to be loosed. Art thou loosed from a wife? seek not a wife.
AV 1C 7:28 But and if thou marry, thou hast not sinned; and if a virgin marry, she hath not sinned. Nevertheless such shall have trouble in the flesh: but I spare you.
AV 1C 7:29 But this I say, brethren, the time [is] short: it remaineth, that both they that have wives be as though they had none;
AV 1C 7:30 And they that weep, as though they wept not; and they that rejoice, as though they rejoiced not; and they that buy, as though they possessed not;
AV 1C 7:31 And they that use this world, as not abusing [it]: for the fashion of this world passeth away.
AV 1C 7:32 But I would have you without carefulness. He that is unmarried careth for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord:
AV 1C 7:33 But he that is married careth for the things that are of the world, how he may please [his] wife.
AV 1C 7:34 There is difference [also] between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman careth for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit: but she that is married careth for the things of the world, how she may please [her] husband.
AV 1C 7:35 And this I speak for your own profit; not that I may cast a snare upon you, but for that which is comely, and that ye may attend upon the Lord without distraction.
AV 1C 7:36 . But if any man think that he behaveth himself uncomely toward his virgin, if she pass the flower of [her] age, and need so require, let him do what he will, he sinneth not: let them marry.
AV 1C 7:37 Nevertheless he that standeth stedfast in his heart, having no necessity, but hath power over his own will, and hath so decreed in his heart that he will keep his virgin, doeth well.
AV 1C 7:38 So then he that giveth [her] in marriage doeth well; but he that giveth [her] not in marriage doeth better.
AV 1C 7:39 . The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord.
AV 1C 7:40 But she is happier if she so abide, after my judgment: and I think also that I have the Spirit of God.
AV Col 3:18 . Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord.
AV Col 3:19 Husbands, love [your] wives, and be not bitter against them.
AV Col 3:20 Children, obey [your] parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.
